Description

The history of Paul Jaboulet Aîné is rooted in the founding of the winery by Antoine Jaboulet in 1834.

The estate gained international fame under his son, Paul, and became known for its flagship wine, Hermitage La Chapelle. In 1919, the Jaboulet family purchased the historic Hermitage Chapel, which became the namesake for their iconic wine. The family-run estate faced challenges in the 1990s, leading to its acquisition by the Frey Family in 2006, who have since restored the winery's reputation and quality.

Owner Caroline Frey and team continues to uphold the quality of the wines today with their continued efforts recognised globally.

Tasting Notes

Plenty of pepper on the nose. This has a striking, granitic influence with graphite, black stones, beef fat and sweet spices, as well as plenty of star anise and dark, rich plums. The palate has rich, deep fleshy fruit that has really filled out nicely. Tannins are fine and gently grippy. There's plenty of dark plum flesh with some mocha and chocolate, too. Acidity is bright. Drinking well now, but will shine from 2025.

Serving Suggestions

Excellent with roasted or grilled meats, game birds, lamb, or hearty fish dishes. It should be decanted for 2 to 3 hours before serving.
